I can really recommend Colonel George P sanderson book " thirteen years among the wild beast of India".
Lots of reading about boreguns in particular. I found a copy last year, made in 1912....
Those fellas really a blast in those days..

Sir Samuel baker is also mentioned with his views about guns and caliber.
The first edtion was made I believe back in the 1890s(haven`t checked yet)
