I read an article in the Double Gun magazine about a Holland and Holland 8 bore double rifle. They shot a cape buffalo with a 990 grain hard lead ball at 1550 fps. It penetrated the full length of the buffalo. Hardcast bullets have taken the "Big 5". They penetrate very well even a lower velocities.
