I have a Sauer und Sohn Drilling in 16/70/7x57R. I used it for almost all my hunting last fall on both small game and roedeer. I long wanted a combo, but saved and waited until I could afford a drilling. I've never regrettet since..! The Drilling has everything a combo offers, plus one more shotgunbarrel. This extra barrel can carry slugs if you want, and you then have a functional doublerifle with punch up to somewhere around 40-50m..

Most drillings, especially those in 16 and 20 ga are built with very good balance indeed - the handle almost like a shotgun. I used mine for upland fowl, aswell as rabbits with good results. I'd stay clear of the 12ga if you think of hunting fowl with it..

The drilling and the three barrels-two triggers need some use to get familiar with. It tends to be a little barrelheavy (especially if you choose long barrels) but stick with 60-63cm (and 16/20ga )and it's not that noticeable: I've shot more clays in one round at the range with my drilling than many of the others shooting there did with sporting model shotguns... It only comes down to finding a drilling that fit you!

If you add a scope in a german claw-mount, you'll have a very versatile drilling, that might almost become you're only gun! I have, and I'm VERY satisfied
