I much prefer the Model 70 action to anything else. It was created, by design, for maximum reliability, and sure, effortless feeding, as well as fine accuracy. I love the big, stiff, flat-bottomed receiver, fast locktime, coned-breech, three-position safety, bolt handle angle, and three-position safety. I also love the superb steels that it is made from, as well as the way it's heat-treated.

But I insist that any Model 70 I actually hunt with be refined, tuned, and upgraded for maximum reliability and precision. Until such work gets done, all bets are off.

There are people in this world who have been stomped and even killed because they were too ignorant and/or too improvident to have their rifles (including the Model 70) properly and expertly reworked for flawless feeding and reliability, and it's a cardinal mistake as far as I'm concerned.

And unfortunately, in the old days I was one of those individuals myself...........
