Jeff,

You are probably right about the short forends being the reason for the barrel band.

They look cool too. I have never had a stock mounted one hit my fingers, which I think is an old wives tale.

I really like the short forends, as the more typical version is just a waste of wood (or plastic) and unnecessary weight.
