Just finished bedding my restock on a 505 Gibbs. With advise from Frank Wells, Frank's done lots of these, I made a very large recoil lug for the barrel and used lots of steelbed in that area. I bedded the action in a conventional manner, again with steelbed, with the recoil lug area and the flat under the rear tang. I installed two crossbolts in the regular spots. Finally, I relieved the inletting everywhere the action forms a wedge...especially at the rear tang. I hated making my skin tight inletting look sloppy, but Frank assured me this was necessary on a gun that would be shot a lot. I'm confident the rifle will shoot to it's potential and the stock has the most chance to not split.
