While some will tell you that the best way to clean out leading is to shoot a few copper jacketed bullets, you'll find that what usually occurs is that the jacketed slugs "smear" a lead plating about .0005 thick down the bore. This further worsens the leading problem when lead bullets are fired.
Clean the lead out......then shoot the copper.
