Capreolus capreolus it is and, like our Red deer (Cervus elaphus) is genetically totally compatible with the Wapiti (Cervus canadensis), the Roe is actually a cousin to the Whitetail. I'm not sure wether these 2 might crossbreed, though. It is remarkable that the higher you go to the North of the continent, the bigger these animals become ; reds get as large as elk and Siberian roedeer challenge whitetails in size.
