Well I would say that the guns you and others are using should be looked at by a gunsmith. What if it decides NOT to come off one day when you most need it.
It's a bit like the foreend wood touching the barrel on a Bolt Action and the small changes that occur due to temperature or the barrel heating up changing the POI. You get the wood removed so it is free floating.
