It sounds like there perhaps is some differances in pain tolerance amongst dogs. Maybe depending on what breed?

My experiance is still that most animals have a higher tolerance for pain then most humans.

Pretty much all the English Pointers we've had in our family (for over a century) have been extremely tough dogs when it comes to ignoring pain and discomfort, especially while out hunting. Injuries that would stop a normal man in his tracks have often been ignored by these dogs until they've been called in, and the injury noticed by one of us humans. This isn't always a good thing though, as some of these injuries would have been better off if noticed and dealt with right away... Fpr example, my aunts previous Pointer had a finger thick stick stuck into her chest cavity from the front while out hunting. The dog kept going as if nothing was wrong until my aunt called her in and noticed it! Luckly, it somehow missed any organs, and the dog fully recovered! Other dogs of ours have had deep wounds etc, and still kept on hunting. Maybe some English Pointers are kind of dumb when it comes to pain?
