My thinking for what its worth:

The more you handle your gun the more familiar and accustomed to it you will be, even if the weight and ballance change some with different barrels. Surely the Kreighoff cocker/safety will become pure second nature, if it isn't already.

There is only so much shooting anyone can do with heavy recoil, and punching paper gets boring with any calibre. Clay targets are moving and the skeet, sporting and informal targets can be as diverse as you want, takes a whole ot of shooting to get boring, relative to punching paper.

If the issue ever comes up, rejointing a double gun just isn't a big deal. It isn't expensive and doesn't take long so it just isn't much to worry about.

Conclussion: Get the barrels if they appeal to you and don't worry about shooting the heck out of your gun in any configuration.
