IMO, the .450 Rigby is no different than the .460 Wby. That is, it's a round that is just too big for caliber and that does not provide a sufficient power increase to offset the disadvantages of its size. Neither the .450 Rigby nor the .460 Wby. will do appreciably more on game than a .458 Lott, and both will jack up the recoil and give up at least two or three rounds of magazine capacity in the bargain.

The Lott, which can propel a 500 grain bullet at 2,300 fps, is to me the apex of bolt rifle .45 calibers. The Lott gives you ample power and large magazine capacity combined in a handy and quick to manage rifle. For example, my CZ 550 Magnum actioned rifle in .458 Lott holds five rounds down, and will chamber one more on top of those when needed, making for a .45 caliber six-shooter with a lot more power than Col. Colt's!

If I wanted more power than the Lott can give me (and I have wanted, and used, more), I would step up to a cartridge having a larger caliber bullet, say, a .474 or even better, a .510 caliber, rather than another .458.

This kind of choice is all about compromise, and every man sets his own parameters. These are mine only and I would certainly not say that anyone else's choice of the .450 Rigby is a wrong or bad choice. The big .450 Rigby will no doubt get the job done, and get it done quite well.
