A 140-E Merkel 9.3X74R rifle weighs 8.3 lbs, bare! It was bruseing to shoot with full 286 gr loads with the factory hard rubber butt plate. I added a Pachmyer Decelarator, and reshaped the hog back a little and it now is very nice to shoot. I would say with a 1.5-5 Vri-X III eluminated scope mounted in the German twist off mount, it should weigh in at about 9.3 lbs, and I wouldn't want a double lighter than 8.3 lbs bare! I think the Chapuis is too light without a scope.
Someone posted they had a 470NE that was very light, IMO, at 9.3 lbs! I also have a 470NE, 140- Safari Merkel and it weighs in at 10.7 lbs, bare, and it is a handfull with 500 gr TB solids, Federal factory loads. There must be some real supermen around this net, with their feather rifles!
