By the way, I cut and pasted some of the threads asking for "Proof Of DG hunted with shotguns" to the hunters I know who do hunt DG with 10 and 12 gauge double guns, and all declined to get involved; they said whatever they wrote as proof would NOT be believed anyway, and it would just be an effort in complete futility and aggravation.

Oh well.

On the otherhand, I know I am developing slugs loads for my double barrel 3 inch magnum double barrel slug gun. It is a Silvio Brignoli, a guild gun made in the Brescia region of Italy. It is a beautiful gun, raised cheek piece, ejectors, 24 inch barrels. Looks like a BIG double. I am going to be testing DG slugs from Ballistic Products, so I'll be loading my own. And I am having starsandstripes load up their big DG slugs. I have been using 1 and 3/8 ounce (or 607 grain) dangerous game slugs made by Brenneke, they are the Black Magic Magnums. They make a cannon ball sized hole going in to whatever they hit and a bigger caliber cannon ball sized hole going out.

I get ragged holes at 50 yards and I am getting very comfortable with this gun for close range big game and DG hunting. I will be testing the loads for penetration. I do know that there is a considerable difference between DG slugs---which are made from hardened lead, have magnum powder and they are also over 600 grains---as compared to plain ole slugs that are soft, weigh a bit over HALF, and have lower powder. Hence normal slugs have much less killing power than a dangerous game slug in 3 or 3 and 1/2 inch shells. It is my contention that to compare the two is similar to saying a 30 caliber gets the same results as a 300 Ultra Magnum. Not all 30 calibers are the same and yes the same is true with slugs. If anyone is interested do some googling for ballistic products or starsandstripes. And, hey if you really want to open your mind call them up. They have DG slugs and loads that will take down some big critters. However, I also am from the camp that believes shot placement and the skill of the hunter is much more important than how big his gun is and how big his scope is. A friend os mine who also refused to get pulled into this "discussion" said the funniest thing is seeing---"americans show up with humungus caliber guns and they can't even hit the ground with them, and yet they talk calibers night and day, and profess how they are experts or which caliber and scope is the right caliber for which game..." He said it is the biggest joke among the PH's he knows. But no, he won't dare to come on here. He said he would not waste his time "debating" here. But he did gte a big laugh at what I cut and pasted him from this forum.

Colorado, there are many big caliber combination guns in this world. I would guess it is because other hunters and yes even gun makers do "think" as you do. Big caliber rifle in one barrel and 12 gauge in the other. I say put a DG slug in the 12 gauge and get plenty of practice and you get a reliable animal slayer... Blam Blam. But hey, I am always learning new stuff too and I might find I prefer to go back to my bolts and scopes... but right now I am having a ball blowing the heck out of things and getting very accurate and very comfortable shooting my big double slugger! heheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
