Could it be a U.S. made Scholefield for sale in Britian. It's my understanding that a gun would have to be British proofed before it could be sold there. I don't know how correct that is.

A General rule of thumb among Martini's is that rolled stamped markings were applied by the maker.I don't know how that applies to others. Hand stamped or engraved markings were applied by the Retailer. Both of my Hollis Martini's are engraved markings. My 3 Westley Richard Martini's are all rolled stamp. But I know in fact that the one Westley Richards was at least partially made by Francotte. At least the inner workings.

The Westley Richards website has a feature that allows you to date your rifle.
