While watching the DVD I was amazed at how almost everyone using a bolt action fired a shot, brought the rifle down to their waist to work the bolt and watched the elephant. Then raised the rifle for a second shot if needed.

Much much better to practice reloading instantly at the shoulder and stuff the spent case if it is lost!

It seems that I see this a lot on hunting shows -- as you say the much better practice is to cycle the bolt with the rifle at your shoulder. Better yet are those who can top up the magazine without lowering the rifle.
