I recommend the 20 ga first of all. Like me, he will never need more and it handles better.

Now, Ruger Red Label. Some get many thousands of rounds problem free from them. Others have hideous experiences like problem triggers, loose lock up, loose forearms, and problems returning the guns to Ruger. This is the part that doesn't match up with other Ruger guns as they are generally very good with customer service. I think it is a QA problem with this gun. Maybe even design. I would pass on the Ruger and get a used Miroku or SKB which will run around $700.
