Ruger Red Label Question

Does anyone have expierence with the Ruger Red Labels. I am kind of in a quandry. I want to buy one for my grandson who is turning twelve this year and I'm trying to decide on a guage and model and they seem to be reasonably priced and a quality gun.

He is left handed so I don't want to mess around with left handed auto's and pumps so I have settled on a O/U.

I am trying to decide first on a gage. If I went with a 12 gage I could buy inserts and shoot 20 gage loads, and then he would be able to grow into the gun and shoot the 12 after a bit, or just buy him the 20 to begin with because it would be lighter for him to start out with, but be limited for geese/ducks/turkey later on.

I was looking also at their camo model, but that comes in at 8 lbs, why is that, does anyone no, perhaps because it's tauted as as turkey gun perhaps.

Any advise sure would be appreciated
