A try-stock is very important if having a new gun fitted, as shooting style can make a very big difference. I am still close to 6-foot, but my preferred LOP for a bolt-gun (single trigger) is 13 3/4 inches, up to 14 1/4 inches (to the front trigger) for a SxS shotgun or DR.

The reason? I mount the butt squarely on my pec, rather than out in the shoulder-pocket.

Many an unwary shooter has bloodied their nose with the thumb when shooting my nitro rifles.
