The reason for so many variables is why there is a try stock. It measures everything form lop to comb height.

A properly used try stock will give 48 separate measurements for fitting the rifle or shotgun perfectly. A try stock gives a perfect pattern for making the stock. Just taking a length of pull and using an average for for castoff will only get close.
