Under my own personal situation, a 9.3X74R double would not be the best starter. A .375 Belted would be more logical based on the fact that I already have the ammo, I have the brass, equipment, ect. Of course, the action must be stronger, the rifle will be heavier (does not bother me), and the price higher initially. Money being no object, this would be picked up tomorrow after a ten minute drive to the store. Of course, if the lock drops, the price skyrockets, but in this hypothetical scenario, money is a moot point.

My problem is that when I buy a double, I want a legitimate big bore, not a medium. My personal prefered chamberings would be probably the .500/.465, the .450 #2, the .475 #2, and the .500, and probably in that order. Obviously I could equal the performance of all but the .500 with a much cheaper cartridge, that is easier obtained (.470), but this just does not appeal to me either. I like obscure. One look at the vehicles I own would verify this. The most common car I have is an all steel 1941 Willys (not a Jeep). The thought of selling this automobile (it is desirable, and it is worth enough in its half completed restorated to put me into one of about half of the selection at WR) has crossed my mind, but I can not bring myself to it. With other people, everything might be for sale, but I never claimed to be like other people, either. This holds especially true on items I have had to make personal sacrifices for.

500 is a nice round number, either followed by "Nitro Express" or by "cubic inch displacement".
