Sounds like a pretty long stretch as to how they were introduced to me but stranger things have happened. Not possibly a black leopard, That wouls be easier to swallow, I think. Black Mt. lions are extremely rare in our part of the world, though I have seen one in the last couple of years in Colorado but that is the only one I have ever heard of.
