I've managed to pick up malaria 3 times, vivax thankfully. First time was on doxy in PNG so symptoms didn't present till a few months later back home. The carrier mozzies are present in Darwin so I had to quarantine. Subsequent infections I felt coming a mile away!

For me, doxycycline was just another word for flatulence!

And sometimes the mosquitoes are like a cloud swarm, so thick one can hardly see through them. Small exaggeration.

One of my stories for this thread. The first tIme I hunt water buffalo with Matt Graham. In the coastal wetlands, lots of mosquitoes. His camp had mosquito nets around the dining area and kitchen.

Hunting the buffalo, mosquitos would land on your bare arms, and chest. Brush them off. Bare skin sprayed with repellant. I didn't realise there were dozens sitting in my back. The sweat soaked cotton shirt proved no barrier to their suckers. Over the hours hundreds of bites to my back. Buffalo down. Three days later in Darwin, my back was one big continuous bite, hundreds combined. Hot and cold showers to try for some relief. Two bottles of stingoes.

Thankfully nominfection, no mosquito carried diseases.

But I felt high for several days.

As Marrskai could tell you, sometimes the mosquitoes arecsonthick on the air. The worst I had it was in thecWest of the Top End, on a water soaked cattle property. Hunting pigs entering one copsevof paperbacks or similar, it was like smoke drifting around one. It wasn't my turn soni chickened out and sent back to the vehicle several hundred metres away where they weren't so thick.

Not hunting but a boozy hockey weekend just out of high school. We wwre camped next to the RAAF team, and boozed all weekend. I was bitten about 160 times at least.

Funny thing for several years after if bitten say three times, the bite would turn into a two ir three inch mosquito bite circle. Some residue from the multiple bites must have remained in the blood for years.

Mosquitoes love me. I get bitten in a tent 160 times. The other guys a handfull each. Hitbred rich tasty blood.

In Africa it's smart to avoid getting bitten. Best way to avoid picking up malaria or nasties. More bites, a higher chance of something, no matter what pills one is taking,

I've always got a lot of mosquitos seasonally on the farm. I've got lots of high grass currently. No sheep or cattle. It reminded me on what the Aboriginals used to do. They'd burn off the grasses at the right time. Great reduced mosquitos anfbbugs for people living in rough shelters and hide clothing. The new green grasses would encourage game into the burned areas. Fingers crossed, no bushfires with my high grasses. Slasher is broken and needs repairs.

Lots of people seem to,luck up malaria in New Guinea. My wife's uncle, a copper stationed there, did as well.
