The second set of proofmarks are crown/R = repair proof and crown/U = inspection after proof firing. Most likely the rifle got a new barrel in the1930s. At the same time the now necessary crown/N = Nitro was added to the original proofmarks. The new barrel was numbered to the receiver, as was customary at the Mauser factory.
