We watched all the movies, war movies, cowboys and indians using play guns - disproves the movie industry & toy guns bit, however, the video games are likely something else, especially with the modern graphics & glorification of these games.
Of course, current "politics" also fuels such crime.

Not to mention that at least in the USA most of the "gun violence" is confined to one or two very specific demographics.
FACT: Remove those "certain diversity types" and the USA would be on par with most of the (pre immigration) Westernized countries as to firearm and overall violence.
