yes it is, it is in 270WSM territory. My first 270 was a Rem700 and the velocities out of that were on the slow side. That rifle is now a 35Whelen and my 270 is a Steyr Pro Hunter. That rifle has a fast barrel At 3100 fps the primers are starting to flatten but not flattened. I backed it off to 3000fps for most usage but when going to NZ after Tahr or Chois I run at 3100. Both have the same point of impact.

If I could not have a 270 I would run a 280AI or 7X64, which every I could get my hands on.
