I recently picked up what I believe is an Oberndorf Mauser Type B, but it has a few things about it that aren't quite right. I would really appreciate help identifying what exactly I have here.

I don't think the stock is original. The checkering is not right compared to all the other Type B 30-06 rifles I have Googled, the comb does not have the right drop and the butt is flat with a pad. The stock has a nice patina which suggests it's old and it looks 'English', but this could just be my desire for it to be Rigby-esq.

The rifle came D&T with Talley mounts. I haven't removed the front mount, but it appears there are no markings left underneath on the top of the receiver; I believe they have been polished away. I believe the bolt has been modified - being swept back. Not sure if the marking on the top of the bolt of 'U Crown B' without the last two of the serial number is typical for commercial Oberndorf Mausers or not. To my eye, it appears to be an original bolt that has been modified by sweeping it back. While not in the photo, the safety has been replaced and the rear sight has also been removed.

Grip cap.

There are no markings on the floor plate. Were all Oberndorf Mausers in 30-06 that were destined for the US market marked 'Germany'? I wonder if it has been polished away?

Ramp front sight.

The receiver is marked 'U.S. 1906' with Crown B and Crown U proofs. I believe the serial number indicates it was manufactured in 1924-1925. The barrel has the matching serial number and marked '7.6S', also for 30-06.

The other side of the receiver is marked '7.6'=7.6mm bore/land diameter, '7.85'=7.85mm groove diameter and '250'= twist of 1 turn in 250mm (9.84").

The markings are clear except for the 'N' which has been polished(?!) away which is really weird as the rest of the text is clear.

The extractor is marked with a matching '93'.

The top of the bolt is marked 'U Crown B' while the bolt shroud is marked with a matching '93'.

To sum up, I believe I have an Oberndorf Mauser Type B in 30-06 that was manufactured in 1924-25 with at least a matching receiver, barrel and bolt. It's missing the original safety, rear sight, and the stock is possibly not original. The markings on top of the receiver have been polished away and the receiver has also been D&T.

Once again, any insight would be appreciated!
