I actually think that is really quite a cool looking rifle. In 1982 my parents moved into their current house. I found a large pile of guns and ammo magazines from the 1960’s and early 1970’s in the attic. As a young teenager they became my bedside reading. As a boy brought back from the African bush, now living in rural Oxfordshire I savoured every page with Elmer Keith et al’s writings and articles like that of the OP.

Fashions have a funny habit of coming around again, and I can’t help think such styling will return. After all in the 1960’s the “classic” style was soooo dated.
