Australian elapids can definitely choose to "dry bite", meaning they can give a warning nip without compressing their venom-sacs. Long story, but I have been nipped on the heel by a western brown that didn't envenomate (thankfully!) Also pretty sure the grooves in their fangs can be almost closed over so although not actually hollow fangs they largely behave as such. A Google search should clarify this?
