The original Oberndorf Mauser Sporter Type A was produced in 30.06 in Patterns No 1,2 & 3, and listed as the .300 U.S./1906 with Mauser Code wyhlo.

The Treaty of Versailles that ended WW1 prevented German sporters being made in 8x57 but production was resumed in the mid 30's. The 8x60 was developed to get around the ban.
