That's correct..Badlands were actually named originally as such by the native Americans..it has more hostile conditions..harsh environment..and yes lots of alkali water unfit for consumption..

Montana has one of the largest concentrations of dinosaur fossils in the US..jn fact the most complete T-Rex ever found was from MT...

Interesting the native Indians named them as Badlands. The lack of good water would definitely be a factor.

In Northern Australia in the Kakudu area and region the Aboriginals had country called "fever country". Not because of malaria which didn't exist there. Or bad water, there was plenty at least in the Wet. Later these areas coincided with known large areas of underground uranium deposits.
