No trap in the but plate but some pretty nice fitting on the plate that is there.





Also the stocks front cap is fashioned from horn I believe.





And the left side of the receiver does not have a Mauser signature.






Finally, I understand the proof marking format on the receiver was discontinued circa 1912.



Therefore I leap to the conclusion it is probably an early guild gun. Sure wish it could tell its story!
