Lovely dog. Still has that innocent puppy face.

Usually around nine months was when my GSP's became pointing monsters. Siegfried in particular suddenly started pointing at anything and everything.

Lovely pheasants.

I have been trying to find a pheasant shoot for a group shoot in the past and again in the last year or two.

The place I went to a couple of times East of Mount Gambier across the Victorian border. He ended up spliting up his property, keeping some blocks I believe. And had a fire in his breeding shed. Ended up doing only about five shoots or groups a year, and to get one, one has to be on a list but only if an existing group drops out.

Rumours of another place doing pheasant shoots closer to the Coorong (?). Never tracked it down.

One place does it near the Grampians in Vic. I think it is about three times the price. A bit too expensive IMO.

I think there may be a places in Gippsland, Bass Strait Islands and Tassie.

Kangaroo Island would be IDEAL. No foxes and fewer cats. I have seen a "wild" pheasant on KI.

Pheasant are mostly captive bred in Ausralia and released the day before in most of Australia. Do not breed well in most of mainland Australia due to next predation by foxes and cats.

I think one reason for the lack of information on where shoots may happen is perhaps laws restrict or ban such an activity in some states.

I have been thinking of breeding some myself, for release and an annual shoot. Then I can follow up on any strays over time. The trouble is having to be around to tend to them. I would probably use clucky hens as opposed to egg heaters (I forget what they are called).

luv2safari, sorry for my wafflng. Enjoyed your thread. I always enjoy photos and stories of dogs and hunting.
