It was a young elephant. An old one would give the buffalo "what for".
Two personal observations.
Hwange, Zimbabwe 1994. While watching a waterhole, the elephants kept chasing the other wildlife away. A grumpy old duggaboy, just strode right through the herd of elephants to drink. The elephants didn't bother him at all. I think he had "macismo"!
Another time, another place, similar, but this time the elephants did chase the buffalo away.
