I agree, John, "Gold Filling" was "going on" in mid 70's - knew a guy who did that with a Browning Citori and claimed it was a "custom" gun and attempted to sell it for $1,500.00.
It was a $200.00 Japanese gun at that time, seems to me.

His looked nice, but like the Browning above, looked fake as well.
