.38 M&P Model 1902 U.S. Navy No. 25188

I'd like to share with you a rare and historic revolver.

On August 8, 1902 the U.S. Navy ordered one thousand Smith & Wesson .38 Military and Police revolvers.
Smith & Wesson assigned a serial number block of 25001 - 26000 to this order. The Navy required a separate serial
number for its purposes, which ran from 1001 to 2000.

These revolvers were chambered for the .38 Long Colt cartridge, the current U.S. service handgun cartridge at the time. They are marked "S&W .38 Mil."

All had 6" barrels.

Here are images of my Model 1902 Navy .38 M&P. It's a survivor from way back. Roy Jinks, the S&W Historian, says it shipped in October 1902.

Of course, the trigger rebound system of a 1902 is quite different from a 1905:

You don't see these revolvers very often, so I thought it might be a nice one to share here. He's got a bit of a craggy face, but mechanically he's perfect. I have shot this revolver using .38 Spl. brass cut to proper length. It's a great shooter and gives a good feeling just thinking of who may have fired it over a century ago.
