Like Daryl, I have experience with the almost-identical 9.3x57. I had two I used for hunting and killed quite a number of whitetail deer, elk and black bear as well as coyotes and ground squirrels and a butcher sheep once as well with them. I no longer have a 9.3x57 but do have 2 9.3x62's which are somewhat out of the league of the virtual twins of the 9.5 M/S and 9.3x62.

What we are saying about the 9.3x57 is basically ditto for the 9.5 M/S. The 9.3x57 is one of my favorite calibers however and within the range limitations and on game to elk size I consider it one of the most reliable and useful rifle cartridges made. I had excellent results with mine. Recoil is mild and terminal effect substantial.

I used 285 grain Prvi Partizan RN and sized down Hornady 225 grain Spire Point bullets {latter reduced from .375 to groove diameter of my rifles @ .368}. I like the Prvi at x57 velocities very much. I generally like fairly soft bullets by the way as long as they give adequate penetration and I've not had any penetration problems of course on the game I've shot with the 9.3x57.

In that rifle you intend to get, I'd look hard at the Hornady 225 Spire Point if it feeds well and you can even find them. I think they are discontinued? 300 Hornady's might be a smidge iffy in that they are a bit erratic in expansion down under 1850-1900 fps. For deer I bet the Sierra 200's would be excellent. I'd probably start with Speer 235 grain Semi-spitzers. I've used them in .375 H&H Mag and bet they'd expand well at x56 velocities. Might make a good all-rounder for you.

I've lost lots of pix from the photobucket debacle, but here are some I managed somehow to save.

Cow elk shot at 150 yards;

Doe shot at 200 yards;

Buck;

Another;

Spike;

On good medium bores, Elmer Keith used to say "You can eat right up to the hole";

Grouse and some home-made bullets {9x19 cases};

Me and a little ridgerunner;

And another;

And one more;
