Yeah, I actually agree too, but as I said above, the old Large Trap was something I had here, lying around so I though I may as well use it. It does make the light rifle a pussycat to shoot. If I can't face the case of uglies in the future I can always take a large Solid pad and change it out.

But for now and probably for the 1st year of using the rifle I will get by with the vented pad. The wood is French Walnut and very dense. So even though I made it shorter then the original Husky stock it's wider and dense, so it now weighs a bit more then it does with the original stock. As it site in the pictures it's now 7 pounds and 5 Oz. Loaded with PPU 285 grain bullets and a load of 4064 I chronograph the velocity at 2270 FPS. That's enough horsepower for anything we have in Wyoming and most things anywhere. Yet stocks the way I have it, with that ugly old pad, the rifle is a real pleasure to fire and shoots very well.

When I made the trade I was of the mind I was just going to turn the rifle around, and sell it. But having shot it some I fell in love so it is now one of my own hunting rifle. I didn't touch the metal at all. Just made a new stock. I can return the metal to the original stock at any time and just bolt it in.

I think this rifle may become one of my favorite rifles for walking the mountain where we have all the grizzlies and my become another of the "dear ones' for hunting elk or moose. Heck, I see nothing wrong with using it for deer too. I have killed 13 deer and antelope with my 9.3X74R, so I may as well add a few with my 9.3X57s too.
