...and now for my next question....bolt safety

If you haven't already guessed, I'm doing some work on my Enfields.....now, to the next question, on actions with the safety lever on the back of the bolt, how do you engage the safety?

On the LSA action I have, once the rifle is cocked, you have to pull the cocking piece back a little bit more ( maybe 5mm ) before the safety can be engaged.

This seems odd to me, is this correct or is something wrong ?
