The whitworths in .458 are now selling for a premium and they are advertised at $1000 to $1200, they have made a jump in value in the last 90 days, thats for sure...

The Whitworths are std Mod-98 mauser openned up totally in front for the 375 etc. and thats a no no in the gunsmith world as removing that much metal in front weakens the lug recesses supposedly, but they seem to work fine from all accounts and I have never heard of one failing, so for what thats worth...

BUT for $1200 you can get a Ruger 77 Safari and it comes totally decked out for Africa, integral quarter rib, barrel band front sight and swivel, M-70 type safty..A integral quarter rib alone on a custom gun runs from a $1000 to $1200...
