Using the card payment is a nice way of proceeding. 3 to 4% seems shocking . I believed it was between 0.5 and 2% ???
After due consideration it’s a very simple (and reliable ?)way of payment, banking % apart.
I cannot imagine the outfitter would take the risk my card payment could be cheated, if possible?
Usually, I am paying the outfitter the whole when booking (in France, we have no booking agent tradition). Sometimes, I pay permits, estimated dipping and packing …….. and estimated booze in advance too. At the end of the sojourn, remain fees and tips.
Tips are paid cash. The rest is up to the outfitter. If I have enough cash, I pay with it.
If I have not enough, I can pay with a check (no traveller check tradition as well) or the FOXY SOLUTION.
FOXY SOLUTION : many resident outfitters aren’t this happy to be paid on the African soil. They often prefer to be paid on a banking account abroad (USA or Europe). A couple of times I agreed to pay the outfitter either via wire transfer on his banking account abroad (say in France) or with cash at our next meeting at a Hunting Fair. All is based on trust.

I think the new technology is expensive and a mite risky. It’s good to know that if we are short on cash and checkless, we can envisage an electronic payment, but I’d use it only if contreived.
