I have to confess to a real soft spot for the 308. I have never done any match shooting but for hunting I think it handles most situations.The ones I come up against anyway. Hunted with a couple once where the husband used a 375 and his wife used a 308 because the husband thought she could not handle the recoil. She smoke two buffalo and a scrub bull with one shot kills while the husband did not put on the same type of display. Its a good balance all round like the story says.I am looking to build a light pack hunting rifle shortly and the 308 is pretty hard to go past.
