Just got back from the lab...

Happy to say I feel comfortable loading the crap out of the Tolley and my Mahillon bore rifle.

There could still be something wrong in there, but we gave these things the uber look-over and numerous passes through the X-ray.

All in all I tested five pairs of barrels and a Tower pistol.
I knew for sure of trouble with one of the set of barrels as well as issues with the Tower pistol -- those were used to make sure I'd be able to see known troubles and identify them as such via X-ray.

Two of the barrels were goregeous Bernard-like damascus, 12b shot barrels and 16b bore rifle barrels from my cased 2-barrel set Mahillon, a set of real-ass Bernard damascus barrels with his proprietary house proofs, the Tolley barrels, a set of amazing looking damascus barrels from a break-action transition percussion/metallic cartridge 20b double which looks like a Beringer with the swinging trigger guard, and a dinky set of fine twist .410 barrels from a sub four pound back action belgian - cute as hell and screwed from a previous owner, it's been slated for sleeves, left barrel for .357 maximum brass as shotshells and right side as .25 hornet in black powder. It's gonna be my daughter's first gun, I'll build an oak and leather case and tools for it. That little princess is gonna get spoiled, and she's gonna know how to cast and swage bullets at the campsite and load her own ammunition.

Well worth the money.
I feel much better now about proceeding with the Tolley and the Mahillon.
From what I got done today, my sense is that anyone here could have a set of tubes looked over at any good local firm that offers nondestructive metal testing for something in the neiborhood of $250.

That and you'll have x-rays of your favorite gun!
