Something to consider though is that x-ray won't necessarily see everything that could leave a set of barrels useless or dangerous.

Cracks won't necessarily show up either. Could show, but depending on how things are in the barrels, might not.

Since this thread's come up and this story of the blown H&H, I've been scrambling for x-ray machine time for this coming week.
I'll have my bore rifle and my 450mag barrels x-rayed, but won't rest there. I'll be doing dye and magnaflux tests and current probe tests too if I can get someone with the right size probe to run them in my rifle bores. The only problem with my contact for the probe test is that they're a manufacturer of pharmaceutical plumbing and might not want to expose thier equipment to a -dirty old rifle...- for good reason. We'll just have to see.

I don't think either of these guns have been fired in the last thirty to fifty years.
