I did some testing today with Barnes 300gr TSX with Winchester 748 powder, in the Sako Kodiak 375 H&H. As stated before, this gun has a 21 1/4" barrel. I started off with 74.2 gr. This is slightly under the max load of 75gr. in the Barnes manual. I got an average of 2539 fps for 3 shots. I was satisfied with this velocity, so I stopped there. I saw no pressure signs of any kind, and the recoil and muzzle blast were very manageable. Bolt lift was easy, and primers looked fine. Barnes also lists this load as the most accurate they tried. So, I am very satisfied with this velocity from a shortish barrel. I'm sure it would get 2600 out of a 24" gun. Once I get some more bullets, I will try this load in my Kimber Talkeetna, and share my results.
