That's not as easy as you may think. Merely rechambering is not sufficient. You have to open up the bolt face too. Further, the Mauser, Oberndorf Commercial 10.75x68 action and magazine must be opened up to work with the longer and fatter .404 cartridge. The 10.75x68 has a CIP max cartridge over all length of 81 mm = 3.19", Mauser mags for this cartridge had an inside length of 84 mm = 3.3". This is insufficient for the .404 with it's max oal of 89.76 mm = 3.53". Mauser .404 magazines on their Magnum actions were 92 mm = 3.62" long.

True but can be done easily enough and is a relatively common alteration on a standard M98 action.

My own Oberndorf Mauser which was a 10.75x68 originally has been opened up for the .404 Jeffery cartridge.

I would not do this now or recommend it with the availability of ammo and loading components for the 10.75x68, there is no earthly need to do so. The .423" Mauser as it was more commonly known was a popular cartridge in the heyday of Africa and India hunting but was only let down in performance at times by the poor bullets. But then so too were many cartridges of that era especially with the nickel jacketed type that often riveted and broke up.

kuduae if you really want or need a .404 go for it but I strongly recommend leaving your rifle original and focus on getting a good supply of reloading components for it including a bullet mould. cast bullets let you shoot a lot without the wear and tear on the barrel and cases last a long time especially if annealed regularly. The 10.75x68 will do everything you want of it.
