Dorleac thanks for your prompt clarification. I have never used a cocking piece mounted peep sight and was unaware that the barrel mounted rear sight was lined up in the sighting process.I also realize that sometimes you have to make minor compromises to allow function as well as form.
Seeing the finished rifle above I can appreciate the Rigby styling cues of the forend, feed ramp, and floorplate. A modern classic. In many ways an improvement of the originals. I have seen the deep Rigby type II and III floorplates mostly used with standard bottom metal to increase magazine capacity of a rifle without having to replace the stock or when using a drop box magazine for cartridges such as the .500 Jeffrey. I prefer a drop box magazines that will offer equal capacity with a flatter floorplate when a rifle is built from scratch because of the contour of the front of the trigger guard and also the fact that the floorplate does not need engraving to break up its bulk.
My preferences are shaped by my imprinting on classic pre-war rifles, Mauser Type A and premium British builders such as Jeffrey, H&H, Rigby, Westley Richards and Purdey. As a fan of finely crafted Mausers, I greatly appreciate your work which shows no compromise or limits in the quality of design and execution. It is always a delight to examine the subtle details that define your rifles even if one cannot experience the handling qualities or the smoothness of the action. In one word,Perfection. I find it generous on your part to take the time to participate in these forums.Thank you.
