I've been working on a sporterized 1914. Its in fairly good shape but the end result will be a field gun at best. Long story short, the stock was absolutely atrocious, which I'm fairly certain was built from a rough sawn walnut 2X6, I decided to shorten the forearm up and after cutting it down a few inches found that the would be "sporterizer" trenched the forearm out and filled with bedding compound, needless to say I had to continue cutting shorter and shorter until the trench was mostly gone. I was ok with this as I was going for a "british" length forearm but I think its just a tad too short. This picture is a little ways into the "transformation" Ive done further work to lower the comb (I hate cheekpieces on open sighted rifles but in America it seems to be impossible to find stocks without) and lessen the angle of the grip and other general cleanup. The trigger was absolutely horrible, which I fixed up with some sanding and polishing. Next step is to make a new bolt handle to replace the current one. A new rear sight and front swivel attachment and she'll be ready for final polishing and a re-blue.

Does anybody have an old 1903 stock for sale? I know I could probably make one or have one made but I would like to try and find one first. Thanks, Jess
