Obe1, the safari classics are in a limited calibre range & supposedly upgraded timber etc, can get them here normally thru big stores in capital cities. A mate had one in .505Gibbs, it was a real gem, shot well & functioned well from the beginning before he got an offer too good to refuse for it. I have the classic but in .404, it's stock wasn't the flash one as advertised & wasn't bedded from factor as described - nor did it initially feed well!
I tried stretching the magazine spring somewhat as the bolt would ride over the cartridges initially, I ended up putting a sloping spacer into the back of the mag well & it works fine now.
I must say that mine was bought 2nd hand from a supposed top notch store in Brisbane sight unseen, its a very long drive from NQ! Someone most probably got the proper stock for their magnum as the barrel diameters are pretty similar - can't prove it though!
What I would suggest is that before you lay your hard earned money, being in Victoria you're a lot closer to drive to the store it's probably at & try it feed wise etc; if it works properly then that's the one you buy. Yes some CZ's in .458 were problem feeders, yet others are perfect?
Yes it leaves a bit of a bad taste in the mouth, just don't want a fellow like yourself get a potential problem child!
Overall the CZ 550's are all the basic same rifle, just different calibres & the costing of making a .404 from scratch up was on par what I paid for mine. If I do my part right it is one accurate rifle & that goes for light cast loads up to full power hunting loads.
