I have owned 4 or 5 of the rascals. Only the 45\70 has been trouble free out of the box. The others either had a 2 long inch throat (a 7 mm Remington), or the slim barrels were very sensitive to forend pressure. The Number 1's that have heavy barrels are less subject to the forend pressure problems of their lighter barrelled counterparts. Classy looking smoke poles they may be, but they are not a rifle for the guy who shoots 5 or 6 shots a year, and expects things to work with a minimum of effort.
